Principal
Dear Bonnie Oehl School Community,
It is an honor to be the principal of Bonnie Oehl Elementary again this year. Our school has dedicated and talented teachers and staff who are committed to our scholars and I look forward to working alongside you and the staff to support your children.
This past year our school community had many successes and accomplishments. Among them are being designated as an AVID-certified elementary school and a silver PBIS school. AVID is a nationally recognized program that has a high success rate of students attending college, while PBIS is our schoolwide focus on providing an environment so that every student can feel valued, connected, and supported by caring adults.
In addition to these successes, and preparing our scholars academically, we value field trips and hands-on learning opportunities to make concepts more memorable. Last year our scholars participated in field trips to zoos, museums, and the ballet, and our 5th graders went to science camp in the snow! We had assemblies featuring ballet folklorico, where students joined in with the troupe and a schoolwide dance party while learning about history with School Yard Rap. We look forward to providing even more opportunities such as these for our scholars.
Your feedback and support are essential to the continued improvement of our Dual Language Immersion program, our school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), AVID, and EXL (previously known as CAPS) programs. We cannot do this work without you! With your help, we can ensure that every student is engaged, feels safe, and achieves at high levels.
I encourage you to become involved in our community. We have several parent groups, including our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), and School Site Council (SSC).
I look forward to all we can accomplish together for our scholars and celebrating our successes throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Adrienne Ortega, Principal
